As an eligible recipient of Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA), Alternative Trade Adjustment Assistance (ATAA), or you are 55 or over and eligible for premium assistance under the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC), you may be eligible to receive a Health Coverage Tax Credit (HCTC). The HCTC helps certain trade-affected workers, retirees, and their families pay their health insurance premiums. The HCTC makes health coverage more affordable by paying 80% of your monthly health insurance premium cost for individuals who are eligible for the tax credit.

The HCTC is a refundable tax credit - it is paid in full no matter how much federal income tax an eligible individual owes. The HCTC is available on a monthly basis to help you pay for health insurance premiums or on a yearly basis when you file your federal tax return.

In the state of North Carolina beginning in January 2009, Inclusive Health is the state qualified plan for individuals that qualify for the HCTC. To find out more information about the plans and the benefits, please refer to the Applicants page on this website for an application and an Eligibility Worksheet. To calculate your monthly share, please use the Rate Calculator below. Once you enter your age, your gender and smoking status, your 20% share will appear for PPO 1000, PPO 2500 and High Deductible Health Plan 5000 (HDHP). You can choose the plan that best fits your needs. You may also refer to the Frequently Asked Questions which includes answers to many of the questions that you may have.

If you are eligible to receive the HCTC, you will not have a waiting period for any pre-existing medical conditions. For more information about the HCTC, please refer to the IRS website.
