Health Coverage Tax Credit Eligibles
As an eligible recipient of Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA), Alternative Trade Adjustment Assistance (ATAA), or you are 55 or over and eligible for premium assistance under the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC), you may be eligible to receive a Health Coverage Tax Credit (HCTC).
The HCTC helps certain trade-affected workers, retirees, and their families pay their health insurance premiums. The HCTC makes health coverage more affordable by paying 65% of your monthly health insurance premium cost for individuals who are eligible for the tax credit.
The HCTC is a refundable tax credit - it is paid in full no matter how much federal income tax an eligible individual owes. The HCTC is available on a monthly basis to help you pay for health insurance premiums or on a yearly basis when you file your federal tax return.
In the state of North Carolina beginning in January 2009, Inclusive Health is the state qualified plan for individuals that qualify for the HCTC. To find out more information about the plans and the benefits, please refer to the Applicants page on this website for an application, an Eligibility Worksheet and a rate calculator. Remember that the rate calculator lists the total monthly premium rate. To calculate your monthly share, multiply that result by 35%. You may also refer to the Frequently Asked Questions which includes answers to many of the questions that you may have.
If you are eligible to receive the HCTC, you will not have a waiting period for any pre-existing medical conditions.
For more information about the HCTC, please refer to the IRS website.
